h-pylori

I was diagnosed with H-Pylori a month ago. I took Biaxin, Amoxicillin and now Carafate, I feel no relief at all. How long does this last?

Nonna, the antibiotic therapy may have cleared the bacteria, but even with that gone you may be in for a bit of a battle with acid issues for sometime to come. Many find they have to stay on acid blocking drugs and change their diets for quite awhile following initial diagnosis. No one quite understands how the bacteria changes the acid content in the stomach, but after it's changed it can unfortunately continue and continue to result in misery.

You also need to wait the recommended time following the antibiotic therapy and return to your doc to be rechecked. Sometimes one round of antibiotic therapy doesn't quite get rid of the problem. In the meantime, make sure to take any acid suppression meds your doc suggests and couple it with a GERD-friendly diet. You can find a representative example at gicare.com.
