i was recently diagnose with GERD i have had the symptoms for 2 years now. i have tried a few medications but none of them seem to work my condition is getting worse any ideas on what i can do????

hey maddo,
how did the operation go? i had an endoscopy done last month thats when he gave me the final diagnosis of GERD. however since having the endoscopy done i have been experiencing alot of pain im awake alot in the night coz of heart burn, i have stomach cramping and a big change in my bowel habbits. did u have any of this??? i have had 4 different meds and neither work only being 18 byears old it is affecting my life alot i dont want to do many things coz i always feel crappy and just want to curl up. around where i live the health professionals r nothing to get exited about luckily my mum is an OR nurse and has got me the right doctor but i cant get into see him til september so i dont know wot im meant to do. i start a new job on monday and i dont want to take any time off bcoz of this :( :( :(

                  i have chronic GERD and now i have barretts because of it. Iwas and have been on nexium 40 and it seemed to work for a while however now some years later the doctor has now told me that because it is not working as effectively now is probably because my liver has become accustomed to the drug and breaks it down faster. Im in a lot of pain now because the drug is not working and am going for an operation tomorrw for a fundoplication which they are going to pull my stomach up and wrap it around my oesophagus like a hotdog to strengthen the valve which is called the les or lower esophagal sphichter(dont think i spelt it correctly but you know what i mean) SO I WOULD SUGGEST YOU SEE YOUR GP AND EVEN ASK TO HAVE AN ENDOSCOPY. so he can diagnose you correctly.
