Had abdominal & pelvic ultrasound last month, US tech said I had gall bladder sludge. My gut doc of 5 yrs never even mentioned this! She looked back to last US records in computer, I had this sludge 2 yrs ago! I was never told! Gut doc nurse said on phone, "If the sulfur burps, pains (left mid-center below ribcage referred pains), bloating & diarrhea gets worse, let us know". I do not want to have it removed if I can help it cuz I read on IBS & gall bladder blogs that most people regret getting GB taken out, as it makes the IBS & diarrhea worsen! I asked primary doc 3 days ago, if milk thistle can help, he said that's fine, and also take lecithin caps, so I am taking pure Soya Lecithin 1200mg & all natural milk thistle. I wish I knew if I needed bile salts or if I have a slow-emptying gall bladder problem!?!?!  I eat tons of high fiber whole grains, tons of fresh fruit & veggies, hardly any fats & my cholesterol is fine, so it's not my diet, so I tend to think it's my gall bladder emptying too slow? perhaps a neurological problem, from being Type1 for 30 yrs? I will have to investigae further...

It may develop in gallstones, but even the sludge alone can block your bile ducts. Now, would you call this dangerous? If you currently don't have any problems, gastrologist probably won't suggest you surgery.
