treatment options for dysplasia in stomach:post esophageal resection:

I Nov 2006, My father had a resection done as treatment for Stage I cancer (no lymphnode involvement) of the esophagus at the sphincter of the stomach. In late July, it was discovered that he now has inflammation inside the stomach, which was biopsied 5 weeks ago, and again 1 week ago, and yet again today. Reason: he cannot keep any food in his stomach. The biopsies have come back negative for cancer (no results yet of today's sample).
He has been in the hospital on an IV for the past week, and has not been able to eat anything except a bit of chicken broth and jello.

What treatments are available for these cases? I understand that the stomach is not able to function right now, but can you get it back, or will he need more surgery? The problem is that the size of the dysplastic tissue has increased from the previous biopsies, so obviously something is growing, but it keeps coming back negative. We are confused.. Any clarification would be helpful!

Should he be fed parenterally, so that he does not become even more emaciated. He is 5 ft 11, and only weighs 130 lbs now!! It may be less, because he has not been weighed this week.

Be proactive and start asking about alternatives. Don't wait until your father gets too far run down. Call his doc and ask what the next step is and push the subject.

His esophageal sphincter is gone, and he cannot tolerate ANYTHING, absolutely nothing!!
In the hospital he is just forcing down a bit of jello and broth, and even that is difficult.

He is feeling very weak, and I don't know at what point they will have to feed him parentally. He is slowly starving. Glucose and electrlytes is all he is getting, and basically he has not been able to eat for at least 2 weeks.

Have you tried to puree the food he eats? Or try some baby food? Is the problem consistency of the food? Or composition like protein vs. fat? Fat stays in the stomach 'longer' so it's more likely to come up.

Have you tried pure liquids like Ensure?

Is his lower esophageal sphincter still intact?
