p.s. don't break your pills in half. So, if you decide to take an antibiotic, I would ask the doctor if they will test at intervals in between and talk to them about the dosage problem.
take care,

Did your doctor actually tell you to take Ciprofloxacin for 6 months? If it keeps coming back perhaps the bacteria is resistant to the antibiotic. Do they take a culture in between every two weeks or so? You should not just take it for 6 months without rechecking the culture or at least a urinalysis. Do you have an in dwelling catheter? This poses a different problem though. Also, when you wipe be sure to wipe from front to back never back to front. I need more information to be able to help here (If you don't have an in dwelling catheter that stays in your ureter). Alternatively, you could try drinking lots of cranberry juice and water instead. My mother in law does that and she is 92. She has had repeated urinary tract infections due to structural problems. If you are not diabetic you can do that. It takes several days and lots of regular cranberry juice. They also have cranberry pills but you still have to drink a lot of water to flush out the bacteria. But then you have to keep getting up to use the bathroom. I don't know what your situation is. If you have a catheter then it is a problem so let me know.
hope this helps.
It is not uncommon to be put on medication long term to as a preventative measure if you have been getting a lot of urinary tract infections.
As the doctor prescribed for you to take 125mg, but the chemist can only supply it as a 250mg dose, telephone your surgery and tell them about this. Your doctor should be made aware of this and he may prescribe a different medication that comes in a lower dose.
You should not have to break any medication in half. The right low dose needs to be prescribed for you.
Get in touch with your doctor through contacting the surgery for the doctor's advice.
