Trouble breathing.

I am having the strangest symptom. I'm  having a hard time breathing through my nose. It is very congested.   It is a lot of work for each breath. I'm also having slight chest soreness, in that my chest feels tired from how much work I'm having to do to breathe. I went to the doctor on Friday. They performed an EKG and a chest x-ray, suspecting I was having heart trouble. They found nothing. I had asthma as a child, but this doesn't appear to be an asthma attack because I'm not wheezing.  What is wrong with me?? What could this be?
