Prescription drug requirements

My doctor has suddenly started asking for a urine test each month to prescribe my medicine. I have been taking this for years now and never been asked before. The medicine is xanax and is for the shakes i occasionally get with graves disease. Does anyone know if this is required by the state(Ohio) or federal govt? My bill for this test is $450 each this is monthly as doesn't make sense. Obviously this is more than the regular visit and my prescriptions.

hes testing for abuse of the drug. Xanax is a controlled substance and doctors records are reviewed by DEA. There are alternate drugs for tremors from graves disease. Also he should be checking your thyroid thru blood work to make sure the disease is under control

I don't know about Ohio law but your doctor is checking your levels in case they have to be adjusted.
