What happens when medicine is mixed

What are the reaction for a adult male 20 - 25 when you combine lovenox, cumadin, and also lortab?  My husband has been diagnosed with a blood clot on his leg.  But instead of getting the blood flowing and moving, like you think they would by having him move his leg, they are just having him lay there and is not allowed to walk.  He has been in the hospital for several days now.  They doubled his dose of cumadin to 2 - 10mg pills a day, with 2 injections of lovenox, and also lortab as needed.  He had just had surgery 1 month prior to the foot on the left leg, where his clot is on the calf of that same leg.  He had a cast on for 3 weeks, and lost a LOT of muscle mass.  Is that normal as well?

It sounds like they're trying to shrink the clot with blood thinners and it isn't working.  Ask the docs why they aren't able to do deal with the clot surgically.  They don't want him moving around because that would increase the chances of part of the clot breaking off and messing up another organ - and possibly killing him if it goes to heart or lungs.  After all the blood thinners, he may not even be a good surgical candidate at this point.

I don't think you're looking at a drug interaction problem, but there do seem to be a lot of unanswered questions.  If you aren't getting good answers from the hospital staff, you need to speak to the patient advocate at the hospital.  That's what they're there for.  They WILL get all the involved staff into a meeting and figure out what the heck is going on, and why.

You have a potential malpractice tort action so expect them to circle the wagons. I say "potential" because there are other factors involved and I am not necessarily suggesting they acted with depraved indifference. I do see a number of yellow flags. The whole outcome is not normal. Get a second opinion from someone unaffiliated with the facility. Naturally this opinion does nor reflect in any way the hosts of this forum.
