I am an OB nurse and I am so very sorry for your lose.  I think the laws probably vary state to state.  I know here in Mississippi, they let the parents carry the baby home and bury themselves.  There was a case where a mom didn't want to bury the baby and social services had to step in.  This is such a sad situation, but the hard truth is you have to bury the baby.  The baby will start decomposing as soon as death occurs.  This could be a health hazard.  Most funeral homes around here provide free caskets to infants.  Please keep me updated on your situation.

Oh my gosh, did you lose your baby, or is this some one elses baby that died? I'm so very sorry this happened.
You can wait awhile before the service and burial if you need that time.
I used to work in a funeral home so I know you can wait awhile, unless there were to be an open casket. In that case you should only wait a few days at the most.
Again, I'm truly sorry about what happened. We have a grief forum here at Medhelp and I think it would help you.   Remar
