Definitely speak to the surgeon first.  I am no doctor but have heard that traveling in an airplane causes pressure build up???? not sure, but with a recent brain surgery, if thats true, it could be too risky.  Your doctor will be able to tell you if its safe.

Depending on the surgery I suggest speaking to his Neurosurgeon first
