soft tissue mass

i felt this knot about 8 months ago and brought it up to my pain clinic doctor and she made the comment i needed to see my family dr.  just forgot to do it .  it does cause a lot of pain and last week it was hurting again and i put my hand on it and it was quit apparent at last i made the doctors appointment and he said it was a soft tissue mass.  i told him that my father had muscle cancer and he told me this is what he had thought it was. my father has had colon cancer and muscle cancer and several other things go wrong, my mother had skin cancer then breast cancer then ovarian cancer then lung cancer and to top it off pancreatic cancer.  what is the possibility this is not cancer and what is the prognosis if it is?  My health is not good, i was in  a terrible car accident 11 years ago and broke 13 bones in the pelvic area and right hip area and badly bruised on the left hip where this mass is.  i now have 2 badly bulging disk in lower back arthritis in my shoulders and back and right knee i have extreme back pain and am on patches and hydrocodoine to control it and it still doesn't went through a week of i could not walk or get up and ended up in the hospital due to it. i have days where i have prickly feelings and numbness in my legs and sometimes in the arms. i had a complete hysterectomy in 05 due to precancerous  cells and everything had turned a nasty grayish color and was not looking good, so the understanding was if it was not good to take out.  i am a smoker and have been for 20 years i have lost 60 pounds in the last 17 months.  please respond need to know what to expect before i get bombarded with it.  thanks for anything you can get me am getting an mri sometime this coming week.

i would not be a bit surprised if it was cancer as a family member in my intermediate family for generations have not died from anything but cancer for as far back as anyone can remember. anywhere from breast cancer to leukemia and the list goes on. everything that i have looked up says cancer and truthfully i have been expecting it.  I am okay with it as with technology they can do a lot now a days.  i have been losing weight for about 15 months in the begining it was a couple of pounds every time i went to the docs and the last time it was 10 in one month. i have a hard time keeping it done. i had the gull bladder taking out so it comes out one way or another and usually within minutes after eating.  i was only eating like a vegetarian but that is not really that healthy and i can not take any grease even the least bit sends my stomach whirling.  i have been trying to get this diagnosed for the last 15 months, did an upper gi and it can back okay.  i just can't take the pain.  i may take a hydro once a day if that, i don't like to take anything if i have to.  i have severe arthritis as when i was in the car accident i was t boned and i was pinned in my car from ribs to knees with my drivers door and they had to get the jaws of life in there to get me out. when my husband went to get my stuff out of the car they gave their condolences to him. they thought i died, unfortunately it wasn't the case and i am still living but now in a lot of pain on a daily basis but they have it so i can live a bearable life  now and get to see my children grow up. i will change the thing to female did not know what you are talking about but got to be a profile somewhere in here. thanks for this all, and my father went through everything i am going through just a few years later.

Hi, this is my first time on this forum and I read your post. (I have been a member here though for a few years and now mostly post on the breast cancer community site)

I want to say how sorry I am. You are asking how likely this is cancer? You know that I am supposed to say that only your doctor knows beat and can be trusted with an answer to everything health related in your life?

it sounds bad, and I know that oncologists, of pretty much all symptoms, pay a lot of attention to, and take very seriously, the weight loss thing, as with advanced cancer weight loss happens.

I have an aggressive form of breast cancer and last year I knew it had spread even if it took all my effort to be taken seriously.

in a very short time it has gone to brain, and liver and other places and with the 'liver' came the nausea and weight loss.

Finally, my oncologist is treating me with something that works, a chemo called Abraxane. (It's the same as Taxol but has some great advantages)

I feel so much better and my tumor markers are way down.

I also know what you mean about those patches covering up pain, and I know 2 people this happened to and a cancer diagnosis was missed. in my own case, it was more that I had to not use the patch for a day or so past changing and then one day the pain was really gone and I did not need it anymore. (I am not suggesting this is the case with you)

I did have withdrawals though and used hydrocodone to deal with that.

Take care and let us know?

Katrin

i am a female, they have not done a biopsy i just went on friday after my daughter insisted on it.  I has been growing not a whole lot but i noticed this past winter and brought it up to my pain doctor and at that time she had told me to have it checked but with everything that is going on in my life didn't and the pain comes and last a few days then goes and then comes back and this has been going on for about eight months.  well last week the numbness in my legs started in and that comes and goes throughout the day and then i get really cold all the time (when no one else is).  my leg got extremely painful to i could not put my hand near it it hurt so badly, i told the one daughter and she made me get an appointment.  i went in and the doctor looked and felt it and said that it was a "soft tissue mass", my father had muscle cancer and survived that but three years later another cancer has shown up and he is in stage four cancer in that whether or not they are connected is beyond me.  my two aunts on my moms side 1)had breast ovarian and back cancer and is still alive 2) had breast cancer that matasified to the lung, liver and armpits basically all over and died 15 months before my mom. grandma on both sides died from breast and ovarian cancer.  this mass is hard and has grown to slightly smaller than a quarter and the last time i felt it i moved it slightly and it sent shooting pains to my lower back and down my legs and have had problems ever since then. won't do that again.do i believe it is cancer? yea as it is so heavy in my blood lines and it has gotten bigger and it could be the problems i have been having in the last few months and the pain patch has been masking the pain until now.  started getting bad charlie horses in that leg now and the pain is all the time.  my  mother and aunt died in my arms so i know what to expect if it gets to bad.  i have figured nothing else can go wrong that hasn't already.  i have lost 60 pounds and i am down to 123 i looked in the mirror and saw the walking dead.  i look as bad as i feel.  i asked my dad what he felt like when he had the cancer and everything that he went through i am going through right now.  i get extremely sick when i eat, nauseated and sometimes throw up i have extreme pain in my joints and it does not stopbut he had it in his arms. they say it can be in the arms or legs so i have this in my leg , near my left hip but not on the bone it is in the muscle area and with me being as skinny as i am it is not hard to find.

Oh my dear man you and you're family have been through alot, you'll need to be extra vigilant with you're own health. Have they not done a biopsy of this mass? I assume they will and IMO should have been done before the MRI.....I would insist on this and soon, is it growing?...pain is not unusual with a muscle mass but if its growing its a different matter......
