First off I'd like to say thank you to all the contributors on the site-it's a great source of information. Here is my situation:
I was traveling in and poor judgement got the better of me with two high risk individuals:
Individual 1:
Received a blowjob w/o protection
Me fingering her
Potentially inserted my penis into her for 1-3 seconds (if it happened it was a mistake but I do believe it happened)
Individual 2:
Received a blowjob w/o protection
Approximately 5 days after exposure I had a severe sore thought, nasal drip, and the worst cough of my life. This lasted for around a week and a half and then went away. 4 weeks post exposure I develop what's best described as a maculopapular rash which started on my upper chest and has now created some spots on face and neck. I have not had a fever at any time.
10 Days after exposure I had the early detection APTIMA COMBO2 Assay performed with the following results:
RNA, TMA= Not Detected
RPR (DX) W/REFL TITER AND CONFIRMATORY TESTING= Non-Reactive
I also had the standard HIV test performed at that time that was non reactive but I guess that doesn't mean much since I was in the window period.
As you can imagine I'm very nervous about all of this but was hoping folks could help me with a few questions:
1) My understanding from reading the threads and other online sources that the issue with the early detection test is that it creates false positives not false negatives. Is that the case?
2) What else could cause the rash? It's not as severe many of the pictures that come up when you type in ARS rash... looks more like this: http://medicaltreasure.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/maculopapular-rash-pictures.png
3) I know you can never diagnose by the symptoms but based on the above... what do folks think?
4) I'm going to be going in for a 4th generation test next week, it'll be 5 weeks post exposure how accurate will the result be?
As you can imagine, this is pretty scary.
