Anxiety at 12 week Test

Took my 12 week Elisa HIV test on Friday and I am still waiting on my test results.  I called my doctor today (Tuesday) and was told the results are still pending.  I am starting to worry again on why they are taking so long?  In the past they only took 3 days!!  Just looking for some support as my anxiety is starting to increase waiting for these results.  I had a broken condom incident with a female on a 1 night stand.  That is the reason for the test.  I had a negative 6 week test but at that six week test I started to get a little worried because the person giving the test did not seem competent and I started to think what if this guy pricked me with a dirty lancet.  Cant help that thought by it is what it is.  Anybody else wait extra long on results?  I am starting to think that they are probably confirming with a Western Blot.

Hey GoodFellas 2001

When I went for my 10 week test it was a saturday.  They told me the results would be in on Friday.  I was losing my mind and didn't sleep the entire week.   I went in on Friday and the nurse told me everything looked good.  I felt instant relief.  Then he looked at my sheet more closely and said, hmm.................it looks like they only ran syphillis, your neg for syphillis.   He had actually read my six week negative hiv test.  I instantly lost my mind and was screaming in my head.  He told me to come back wednesday.  All I could think about was how maybe he did not want to be the one to tell me seeing as it was Friday and a beautiful day and he didn't want to break the news to me then and ruin my weekend.  I also thought they needed more time to do a confirmatory test.

I went in on Wed and once again was told Your negative.  I asked, was that for the blood drawn on xx/xx/xx  they said no that was from your six week.  Were still waiting on the results.  By this point I was a complete mess.  Anyhow the next day I got a call from the health department.  I called back and asked what it was all about.  They said I would have to speak to so and so but it was urgent because it was a health matter.  I was put on hold for 15 minutes, the entire time suffering extreme anxiety.  The nurse finally came on and said everything was okay and that I was negative.  They decided to call me since they had screwed up the requistion for the test.

so relax, everything is probably fine, sometimes it takes a while to get results for whatever benign reason.

I was told this where I took my test as well - they basically have a huge machine they fill up and start. Sometimes you are lucky and there's room in the machine for your sample on the next run. Othertimes there's not and it has to wait for next time they run the machine which might not be every day. It's not an indicator of anything. Your risk of becoming infected in the way you describe is low - she would have to be infected, and even if she was, from what you describe the transmission risk is low. The 6wk neg test should offer further reassurance until you get the conclusive result.
