If he is in your friendship, then check his status. If he is not sexually active outside his mutually committed relationship and does not sleep with multiple partners, it can fairly be assumed that he is not infected.
If he has tested recently, at least three months after his last unprotected exposure, or he test now and there is no past unprotected experience in last three months, then you should feel relieved.
