Blood on First Aid Kit

Hello all,

Please help me i am going crazy with worry.  Here is my scenario i had a very small cut on my thumb about a day old and went to get a band aid from my companies first aid kit.  As i opened it i notice there was blood on the kit.  I totally freaked out and looked all over my hands.  I am just worried that their could have been hiv blood on there that got into my cut.  It was partially closed but i had slightly scraped it getting my keys out of my pocket and that is why i went to get a band aid and was red but not dripping blood.  Could this be a risk for Hiv.  I am a gay man but am in a monogamous safe sex relationship.  I worry because there is another co worker their who is gay and tells me all of his promiscuous stories so this could be his blood and he could be infected.  I know it says you cannot be infected because it becomes inactive outside but are there any other reasons that can assure me i am not at risk for hiv. I feel sick and am freaking out please help me.

Jeff

HIV is unable to reproduce outside its living host (unlike many bacteria or fungi, which may do so under suitable conditions), except under laboratory conditions; therefore, it does not spread or maintain infectiousness outside its host.

Hi Teak,

Thanks for your answer but i just feel awful i practice safe sex and am monogamous and feel like i ruined everything today by not looking at the kit before i opened it.  I am not sure if it was wet and why do you think i dont have a exposure.  I do believe you are an expert but can you tell my why please.  thanks you so much for helping me.
