Hi,
A few weeks ago, I did a very foolish thing that I've never done before. I was in Buenos Aires (which I have since learned has a pretty high prevalence of HIV in prostitutes - around 3-5 % in some). Anyway, I was at a higher end club, and took a sex worker home with me. She performed unprotected oral sex on me and then we had protected vaginal sex with a condom... During sex I looked down and saw some old, brownish blood on the uncovered part of the shaft of my penis. I kind of freaked out, stopped intercourse, and removed the condom. In my haste, the condom broke a little near the base of my penis. I am sure it was intact during sex, and I'm nearly positive that I didn't get any vaginal fluid or blood near my urethra or head of my penis. The SW confirmed that she had thought she was done with her period a couple of days before. Now, unfortunately, along with the guilt (I am in a long term monogomous relationship), I have had severe anxiety over HIV and possibly exposing my partner. Logically, I think my risk is quite low from reading other posts, but honestly wanted to ask you if I am right. I'm sure yiu can't tell me my risk is zero, but can you give me a realistic risk that I have? Does the presence of blood on the base of my penis and the fact that the condom broke a little when I removed it increase my risk? (My penis did not have any apparent sores, abrasions, ulcers, etc). Do you think I should abstain or use condoms with my partner now? I plan on getting tested for HIV at 4 weeks. Do you think this is necessary? Thanks in advance for your help. I really appreciate it, and I think this website is an incredible resource for people.
