What brand of test is it ? In the US, only one @Home Test ( Home Access HIV-1 Kit) is FDA approved for HIV Testing. It is actually a collection kit used to send a blood sample to a lab for testing. The technology used in this test is absolutely reliable and accurate outside of the 3 Month Window Period.

Hi I spoke to the guy involved so he has agreed to take an HIV test to hopefully put my mind at ease, as he's never been tested. He hasn't had sex with anyone else in the last 3 months, so if he's clear, so should I be. We ordered two kits online - one for him to do now and one for myself to take in a few weeks. Are these home kits reliable enough? The waiting list for clinics here are 3months.
Don't be having unprotected sex with your partner until you have a conclusive test result.
Thanks I will definately have the test. I don't know how much at risk I have been or what the odds are of catching HIV on one encounter. It just goes to show that alcohol can affect ur judgement and lead you to put yourself in risky situations, you wouldn't normally do. I might ask the guy to have the test so it will put my mind at rest sooner than waiting (as i haven't had any other possible exposure). Hopefully it will b fine, I was just worried because he isn't my partner, and I don't want to put my partner at risk. I know me and my partner both neg before this encounter, I deeply regret.
If one does have symptoms which most don't they happen 2-4 weeks post exposure and last 1-2 weeks. HIV can never be diagnosed by symptoms. Only a test at the proper time will give you your status.
I am usually very safe, i had a bit to drink and I actually thought he was wearing a condom. I just wonder if the risk is lower because he didn't ejaculate inside me? also if anyone knows if the symptoms can occur after 6 days?
Use condoms correctly and consistently and you wouldn't have to worry about contracting HIV. You need to test.
