Spill

I recently received a free point-of-care HIV test, which turned out to be negative. As I was standing up to leave, the nurse accidentally spilled the contents of the test cartridge on me. Is this a risk for infection? I had a little cut on my finger from the spot where she drew the blood. Thanks.

The keywords are air and skin: anything that has been exposed to the air will have its HIV content inactivated hence uninfectious. Plus your cut would've healed from the inside by then to allow transmission that way.

But the plasma in the positive test control is lyophilized and heat-inactivated. Doesn't that make it infectious?

Sounds worrisome, but there's NO HIV risk from there.
