PCR-DNA Tests
Neither the Abbott RealTime nor the Roche COBAS AmpliPrep/COBAS TaqMan HIV-1 assay is intended to be used as a donor screening test for HIV-1 or as a diagnostic test to confirm the presence of HIV-1 infection.

Joggen, is the information current? I heard from two different counselors that a NAAT(RNA/DNA) at 8 weeks is conclusive. That the test looks for the virus itself. They advised that I do the NAAT test since both my 3 week and 6 week tests came back negative. The girl I'm with also tested negative at 3 weeks and 35 days after exposure. I'm more confident in my NAAT test being negative now, although I still have to wait until next week to receive it. Are you suggested that a NAAT RNA/DNA test is not conclusive?
That is not correct. 12 weeks is conclusive according to the CDC and FDA.
Really? Counselor told me this was a non-diagnostic naat dna test and would be conclusive at 8 weeks.
(FYI: NAAT tests are for early detection (first 1-4 weeks)- it was unnecessary for your situation. Antibody tests are the gold standard. You should expect the NAAT test to be negative.)
All you are doing by continuing to test before 12 week is fuel your anxiety. 6 weeks is highly accurate and additional tests aren't going to provide much as added confidence. While you can be fairly confident that you don't have HIV based on your tests so far, it's the CONCLUSIVE result that you want at this point. It's stressful to drag oneself in for a test and it's stressful to wait for the results. You would actually be much less anxious if you could simply drag yourself away from HIV forums, HIV googling, testing, and keep yourself busy until your 12 week test (which you should expect to be negative).
Called the clinic today and they said it could take another week for results. I don't know why my anxiety won't stop and I keep waking up with a dry mouth and some nights I sweat, chest and upper area. The girl I'm with swears she hasn't been with anyone in the last 7 months, and she tested negative twice, once three weeks after we had sex and another 35 days later. I tested negative for antibody generation 3 with her at three weeks and again by myself on generation 2 elisa at 6 weeks. I'm dying from anxiety here, I do have trust issues. What are the chances that the NAAT test I took could show positive? She swears she hasn't been with anyone. Her negative at three weeks and 35 days and my negative at 6 weeks, is that a good indication? Thank you in advance for your reply. The next few days are going to drag....
