I have read extensively all of the posts in the archives pertaining to the relationship between HIV and genital herpes but I couldnt find a definitive answer in relation to oral sex with an HIV infected partner vs. anal sex and the increased risk associated with those behaviors seperately, with or without an outbreak. There seems to be a general consensus of increased risk of infection during anal or vaginal sex, but not much mentioned about oral.
I received unprotected oral sex from my friend (who is male and I am male also) and he is HIV + and I am HIV -. He is on meds and has an undetectible viral load. I do have genital herpes. The morning after the oral I noticed an outbreak. It was on the pubic area about a half inch from the base of the penis. He knows that I have HSV-2 but now Im not sure if the outbreak was actually occuring the night before during the oral sex. So my question is two fold. Im not only concerned about receiving oral sex from my friend who is positive while I may or may not have been experiencing an outbreak, but Im also concerned for his chances of contracting my HSV-2. I tested HIV negative two weeks before this after a long period of abstinance. Do I need to be tested now again? Does he need to be tested for HSV-2?
I wasnt really sure where I was supposed to post this, so just let me know if I need to move it to the doctors forum and I will do so.
Thanks for any responses as they are greatly appreciated! And thanks to all the volunteers who tirelessly answer all of our questions!
