1 in 1000 chance true or not?

Hi

I have heard on this website that if a male has unprotected vaginal sex with a female who is hiv positive and they only have sex once then the male has a 1 in 1000 chance in catching hiv. Is this true? it can't be!!! If this was the case not many people would be getting hiv if the risk was so small. Can somebody please confirm this

I have read a lot about the statistics of HIV transmission... they say that unprotected vaginal intercourse is 1 in 2000 for male. and kissing, oral and protected is NO risk! (results based on number of sexually active males and females of different age groups) But still risk is risk... n by the way HIV is NOT the virus that many people get, even in country like India ( population of 1.18 Billion) HIV+ ppl are only 1% of total population as per 2009 data!!! in USA shld be still better...

To start we don't quote odds here, the Dr's in the expert forum use odds, so you would have to ask them.
