HIV & Razors

Hi, I think my question is driven more by anxiety than anything else, but would like to ask it anyway.

I was doing well in dealing with my anxiety over HIV, however I mistakenly came across a story of two sisters who had contracted HIV by sharing the same razor.

Now I am panicking. I stayed with my sister some months ago and took a shower at her house. I dont remember using a razor, but my mind is playing tricks on me and has convinced me that I did. I am also sure she doesnt have HIV, but if she had used the razor before me and cut herself and I then used it is there any risk? We live in the UK.

Various websites seem to give differing opinions on the risk this would pose. Am I stressing over nothing? I know it is not supposed to be able to be spread by environmental surfaces, but the story I have read has scared me. Many thanks.

Sorry to pester you, and this will be my last post on the matter. I just wondered if you could give me your view on what my neighbour told me about the story I read. I have no reason to doubt her, just wondered whether this would be the scenario for transmission to have occured in this situation, and then can get on with my life and my new baby without worry. Many thanks again.

Thank you very much for your reply. After posting this I spoke to my neighbour who was a community nurse for a very long time. She explained to me that in the story I had read the sisters must have been stood in the bathroom together at the same time and passed the razor directly to each other for this to happen.

As I cannot even remember if I used a razor or even if one was in the bathroom I know I am stressing over nothing. Even it the scenario I have described had happened I guess enough time would have elapsed to pose no risk, is that right? Thank you again.

Sorry to post this question, I have recently had a baby and my hormones and anxiety are playing havoc with my mind!
