HIV Risk and PEP

Dear Dr,

I had a needlestick injury (22 gauge X 1.5", needle from an IM injection) and was prescribed combivir and viracept. My results came all (-). The patient however was (+) for Hepa B and C. I have antibodies for Hepa B from a previous immunization. There is nothing I can do for Hepa C, I was told by the occu med doc.

The  patient was tested (+) for Hepa B and C. He had a hx of drug use and very risky sexual practices. His HIV 1/2 EIA Ab Screen w/ Reflexes came out negative. I took the PEP med for 4 days already but the recommendation is to stop taking it once the source person is tested (-). What are the chances that he might seroconvert?  I want to finish the antiviral med, was given tabs for 5 days, but i'm also worried about my liver. What are your thoughts on my case? Pls advise.  I am still a bit worried, though...

I wasn't until i learned about that additional info.  I really am scared that he might have lied to me.  That's what bugs me.  He voluntarily shared that info.  I'm thinking that i might as well continue the prophylaxis for hiv but the company's doc wouldnt recommend it.  He didnt even mention anything about the prophylaxis.  I learned about the antivirals from an ER doc, because i was so scared i had to see a doctor again and not the facility's doc where i initially went for treatment.

That is pretty much zero risk, don't worry about HIV.

hello guys, thanks for the reply.  I'm worried because the guy had oral sex performed on him by a CSW 2 weeks ago.  Just learned that.  I'm concerned about the "window" period.  What if he was in the window period when they tested him?  I already stopped the HIV prophylaxis when i learned that he was (-) but now i'm worried again.  He said that he was wearing a condom when he had that.  I'm scared like crazy.
