HIV risk.

I'm a gay who had had sex with several men last year and today I get a test of Syphilis. It turns out to be positive.

I performed and received unprotected oral sex as well as protected anal sex.(I was the bottom).  the condoms they used, as I clearly remember, never failed from beginning to the end.. if they did, they would have collapsed catastrophically right? In addition,  my gums in my mouth are week.

Do I also have any risk of getting HIV? Do I need a HIV test?

It irritates me severely.. Thank you doctor.

The secondary stage typically starts at 3-4 months, sometimes up to a year. With skin rash starring 2 weeks ago, most likely you acquired your infection roughly last July to October. Your partners both in June and October need to be informed, although the October one probably is the more likely source.

I discovered my symptoms 2 weeks ago, how long does it take to develop from stage 1 to stage 2?

I had sex once in June 15th,(no ejaculation in my mouth or anal ), August 29th (only oral sex, no intercourse)

so those are probably the dates when I was infected..

thank you HowardH, it was just a quick test and it said positive. It didn't say anything about which stage it was.. However, from the symptoms of pink rash, I guess it could be in the secondary stage...the formal result will be released next week..

I see you are in Japan. I don't know how much HIV/syphilis overlap there is in gay men in your country. But the general advice holds true:  you need HIV testing, as well as further evaluation of your syphilis, by a doctor or clinic expert in both diseases.

You are correct to still be concerned about HIV. Having acquired syphilis, you clearly are at risk for HIV, even if you cannot identify a specific unprotected episode or a condom vailure.  In addition, most syphilis in gay men these days (in the US and western Europe) is in those who already have HIV -- so it is likely that you acquired your syphilis from an HIV positive partner.  You absolutely DO need HIV testing. You need to be in the care of a doctor or clinic very experienced in both HIV and syphilis, then follow their advice about which HIV tests to have and when.

However, you haven't said anything about the stage and duration of your syphilis: primary? secondary? other?  If it's only a positive blood test, and you haven't had previous testing recently, you might have had it a long time -- i.e. unrelated to your recent sexual exposures.

Thank you so much, but I still have some concerns below:

My gums are so weak that sometime it bleeds. I didn't know if had noticed the blood that accidently came out when I still have his penis in my mouth.

What's more, 2-3 of my sex partners jerked inside my anal. even with the intact condom, there is STILL NO RISK?

If you are saying that condoms did not break, which by the way if a condom breaks you will definitely notice it, and only unprotected oral sex, you do not need to worry about HIV. No need for testing
