HIV test is confusing to me please help me.

by philguy26, Sep 03, 2015

Hi team,  now as I look at my test result it confuses me if it is a rapid test kit or actually a run through machine test type of thing. Im sorry because this is all new to me. The result goes like this.

Patient's Absorbance: 0.230
Mean Negative Absorbance: 0.100
Cut-off Value : 1.000
Result: NONE REACTIVE

Reference Intervals: NONE REACTIVE

Remarks: Screening Kit Used: HIV Ag/Ab Combo (ARCHITECT)

With this information could you posibly tell what kind of test did I actually get?
That is the test result for my 42 days or 6 weeks post exposure, because I had previous test at 23 days and it came NR with 0.110 absorbance and 0.110 mean negative absorbance.
I would appreciate your answer. Thank you.

Being you are past 3 months ( 90 days ), take a 3rd generation antibody test for a conclusive result.
This includes rapid tests as well.
With your prior testing I'd expect a negative result.

You had a low risk from such a brief exposure.

What do you mean " limited the potential "?

Thought unprotected anal sex is a high risk activity, your 3-5 second exposure limited the potential.
Still test one more time at 3 months post exposure to satisfy cdc guidelines.
A negative result at 42 days is more likely to remain negative. If you can't wait that long test at 8 weeks and that will be very near conclusive.

Anal sex and im the insertive(top)
It's protected sex to begin with but upon entering the condom broke so we stop. I was exposed for only some few seconds maybe 3-5 seconds.

Does it mean it is more likely a conclusive result.

Thank you.

The ab/ag test you took is a 4th generation test that not only looks for HIV ABs but a p24 antigen that peaks at 28 days then drops off as ABs are rising.
42 days is not an optimal time for an antigen detection but most will have a positive AB reaction if infected.
Your values are well below a positive/ reactive reading.
Be encouraged with these results.
A 3 month test is required to meet cdc guidelines.
What was your exposure?
