Had unprotected sex with a guy, scared now

Hi friends,

In need of some urgent advice.

I am 28/m, non-promiscuous, and just last night, I was involved with an untested guy where he dipped into me for a minute or so (with a lot of pre-c*m) before I told him that I was uncomfortable without a condom. So we stopped. We even had oral but that's irrelevant I assume.

Today, he told me that he has had 3 unprotected experiences, two as a top with newbies, but one as a bottom with a promiscuous guy, who started with a condom but removed it midway while having an intercourse.

This really terrifies me and I don't know what to do now. Should I go to a doctor and start pep as it's not 72 hours yet? He has gone to get an HIV test right now, and I hope I can get the results immediately so based on that, I can decide. But if the results take longer, maybe I should start pep tomorrow i.e. within 48 hours?

Or is my risk low? Please help!

Just because he's negative it doesn't mean you're in the clear. "IF" you really trust this person and believe he got this negative at least 3-4 weeks after his last exposure then you can take a SEMI-sigh of relief and rule out PEP. IF you feel he is promiscuous and don't know him very well, you should weigh all your options.
The RNA test is not a stand alone diagnostic test, and must be backed with an antibody test.

I know him "more" than well. It's my mistake because I never asked him if he had ever bottomed. Anyway, his last experience was in October, and no later than that. And I've seen his results myself. So I'm pretty relieved. I don't know if he did an RNA or antibody test though. If it was a blood test, it should be an antibody only tho, right?

Well if its just an antibody test and his last encounter was more than 3 months ago you can trust his result 100 percent. Wish you the best my friend.

Thank you so much. Is it possible I take PEP today and when his results come tomorrow, I can stop them? Not sure which kind of doctor to go to who'd know the treatment.

I think RNA PCR test takes long time to get result .nevillekatrak just calm down and don't be stressed. Every thing will be fine.

How long ago was his last sexual exposure before you? And what type of test did he get? Duo? RNA PCR? Antibody?

Blood test. I'm not sure which one, is it that important? I can ask him but I don't want to be insensitive and will just wait for the results in an hour or so. His other encounter was sometime last year. Again, not exactly sure when.

Oral sex is no risk. If you didn't use a condom for anal you had a risk although brief. PEP is entirely up to you. You need to make that call quickly as it loses its effectiveness after 72 hours. Did this person tell you their status? Is there any reason to believe they are positive?

If you decide not to go the PEP route there are different testing options available. A PCR RNA test can detect HIV as early as 10 days but they often yield false positives.

I would recommend an HIV Duo test at 28 days. Your result would be considered conclusive by many HIV experts.

He has just gone to test himself for the first time and will know the result in 2 hours.  Have my fingers crossed.
Just an update. It's sunday afternoon here right now, so he'll have to wait till tomorrow for results.
