I had unprotected anal intercourse (top) with a man known later to be HIV+ on April 14th. I had a negative home access test at 4 weeks. Around that time I began to have flu symptoms, oral ulcers on gums, swollen lymph nodes, fatigue, muscle soreness, dry cough. I went to my doctor a week later the following Friday (May 23rd) she diagnosed viral syndrome and ordered a RNA PCR viral load. This test came back "undetectable, <50cp/ml".
There's an insane amount of information out there about PCR and if it should be used in diagnostics at all because of the "eclipse" period between infection and detection. Is there validity? Can I have undetectable viremia and be antibody negative?
I am driving myself crazy with anxiety over this. I know my risk is high, but what confidence can I have in the PCR to detect the infection? I have done another home access test yesterday, I'm nervous about it but if what I had were true ARS when would an antibody test pick it up? At what point should I be testing again?
