Very worried!

Dear Doctor,

I'm a male, 30 years old. Sorry for my English is bad. Yesterday, I had unprotected oral sex with a female who I dont know her HIV status. I only had oral sex with her. She made blowjob for me.

I am afraid that if she had HIV+, I will have risk of HIV. I'm so worried. Do I need to get HIV test?

Thank you very much!

There is no debate (among experts) about the HIV risks associated with oral sex.  The risk is so low that almost nobody who cares for HIV infected patients has ever had a patient believed to have been infected that way.  Among experts, it's a semantic issue about using terms like "no risk" and "very low risk".  There is no difference between my or Dr. Hook's use of "low risk" and other experts' "no risk".
DR. HANSFIELD

"And oral sex is basically safe sex -- completely safe with respect to HIV and although not zero risk for other STDs, the chance of infection is far lower than for unprotected vaginal or anal sex.  Please educate yourself about the real risks.  If you stick with oral sex and condom-protected vaginal or anal sex, you have no HIV worries and very little worry about other STDs. "   DR HANSFIELD

"I am sure you can find lots of people who belive that HIV is transmitted by oral sex, but you will not find scientific data to support this unrealistic concern..."   DR HOOK

"HIV is not spread by touching, masturbation, oral sex or condom protected sex."- DR. HOOK

in the public HIV Prevention forum of MedHelp, TEAK and the other moderators maintain that oral sex in all forms is a zero risk activity. Would you agree with this assessment?
I TOTALLY AGREE / DR GARCIA

The observation on thousand and thousand of observations is that HIV is not spread by oral sex (of any sort).  DR. HOOK

Thank you very much! This means that saliva will kill  HIV immediately when it go out from the skin in her mouth?

saliva has over a dozen different enzymes and proteins that render hiv incapable of infecting.

you wont make history by becoming the first person to EVER...IN THE WHOLE PANDEMIC OF HIV...become infected from receiving a blow job.

Sorry, Plz answer my last question. I am worried and confused. I don't know why OS is no risk as you said. In my mind: Assuming the girl is HIV+, and my penis is small cleft traces. At that time, HIV can spread through this small hole. Or HIV can be passed through urethrae to my body when she give me OS.

Could you tell me more? Plz don't ban me.

Thanks in my heart!

Today I waking up and remember  my  mistakes. I remember the words of Dr Edward Hook:

As a generalization for both you and other readers, you must realize that we VERY frequently get questions asking if different types of exposures or prevention measures are 100% effective or if EVERY HIV virus dies, etc.  The answer to these sorts of questions is that it is scientifically impossible to be 100% sure of anything  with respect to these sorts of questions.  For a variety of complex mathematical reasons far too complex to go into here, all one can do with well conducted scientific studies is estimate probabilities.  By definition, any estimate, cannot be 100% certain.

I was worried, I can hardly do anything!

first off...there is a huge difference is theoretical and "real life".

NO you do not need to test.

you have been assessed as not having a risk for contracting hiv from what you have described.  please dont expect us to keep REPEATING ourselves.

further questions should be addressed on the hiv anxiety community forum.  a link can be found at the bottom right hand corner of this page.

The articles talk about theoretical risk, practically it has never happened.

Oral sex is zero risk for HIV but can be for other STD's.

Always use condoms properly and never share needles.
