confused about window period

What is window period for HIV? Is it 3 months or 6 months? I read some of the posts and also the expert posts of Hunter Handsfield in medhelp saying it's 3 months but why does getSTDtested.com  say it's 3-6 months. Dr.Hunter Handsfield is on getSTDtested.com's medical advisory board.

I'm confused. Is it 3 months or 6 months? Thanks for your answer.

unless someone has a SEVERELY compromised immune system, there is no reason to test beyond 3 months post exposure.

now, frequently catching colds, etc does NOT constitute a severely compromised immune system.  this comes from things such as chemotherapy, taking anti-rejection drugs following an organ transplant, and being an CHRONIC, LONGTERM iv drug user.

3 months post exposure for a conclusive result is the CURRENT guideline.
