PEP to a 7 year old child - Urgent help required.

My 7 year old child (weight is 23 Kg) got an accidental blood prone exposure in an hospital while doing a procedure.
Immediately took the child to the Emergency room. After investigation, the doctor prescribed PEP for 28 days. The tablet name is DUOVIR (Lamivudine 150MG/Zidovudine 300 mg). The doctor told to take "half tablet" in the morning and "1 full tablet" in the night.

When I read the leaflet inside the tablet, it is written that it should be given to adults or children over 12 years of age. It is mentioned that it should not be given to children below 12 years of age.

My son is 7 years old. I don't know what to do? Will this tablet affect him badly? Shall I continue or not?

Please help me.

Thanks for your suggestions. The result turned negative.
I would like to know the long term toxic side effects of Lamivudine 150mg and zidovudine 300mg  tablet which is taken as a PEP for 28 days.

Thanks for your suggestion.
The next day I checked with the same doctor regarding the dosage. He prescribed this dosage because paediatric PEP and other PEP medicine is not available in the city.
My child completed the same PEP and did a HIV DUO test on 5th week (29th day from the date of exposure). The result is NEGATIVE. I thank you and God for all the help.

The doctor told to test after 3 months. I would like to know the possibility of changing it to POSITIVE after 3 months. Please give me your suggestion.

Just to pick up on this a little, you would need to speak with the Dr about PEP. This medication is too strong for us to give any kind of valid opinion if it should be taken by a child.

I'm sorry this has happened. Was your son injected with blood?

I would think if your doctor prescribed PEP, he knew what he was doing.
