You're welcome--all the best.
The thing is, is that I'm a good nurse. I really am. But I don't know what has happened. Stress of the job maybe. I think it's time to get away from the bedside. It's not fair to the patient having a nervous nurse. It's not safe. Well thank you Teak for trying to answer my questions and assess the risk and thank you to Rainlover as well for helping. I appreciate what you do.
I am not having a dig at you but if you are going to react this way everytime there might be an incident then for your sake and the sake of the patients perhaps your should seek other employment.
Some people aren't made to be a nurses.
Believe me, I wish I could move along. Fear is a horrible thing. It sucks. I seriously don't want to be a nurse anymore and that's crazy to me.
Move along you never had an exposure.
The syringe was needle-less so I didn't poke myself. It scratched/scraped my finger when I was trying to attach it to the saline lock, but my finger was not bleeding. I guess the pain under my arms is starting to freak me out.
occupational needlestick injuries are a risk for HIV transmission but they are rare because usually the blood on the tip of a needle is exposed to air,it would have to be direct contact from patient to nurse/doctor.That's how the late Dr Robert Frascino was infected.
I just don't understand how it can't be a risk. If there was blood on a syringe and it scratched/scraped your finger, isn't that a transmission route to the bloodstream? Or would I have to be bleeding? I'm scared because I have pain under my arms and in my groin. I'm so confused as to why it's not a risk.
So basically you are saying I should just move along from this incident? I don't want to bother anyone by asking questions over and over so I'm sorry if I'm bothering anyone. I just want to make sure I will not hurt anyone else. That's my main concern. Really, to us who don't have much knowledge of HIV transmission, it causes a lot of anxiety. And what we were taught in nursing school just confuses me more. You are very knowledgeable Teak and I appreciate your help. I just want to do the right thing.
Reread what you were advised in the Expert Forum and move along.
