exposure risk

hello dr thank you first for taking the time & trouble to read & answer my concerns..i had unprotected mutual oral with 2 gay men who are in a partnership here in the uk & later receptive uai with one of them for maybe 2-3 minutes without ejaculation..i have started a 3 drug pep regimen approx 16 hours after exposure what are the chances i caught hiv from this bearing in mind i do not know their hiv status & they both swear to me they are neg & do not have any sti's..we are all white males in our mid forties..kind regards

yes i had receptive unprotected anal intercourse..stupid i know! just how effective is pep?

Hello, I don't know what "uai" means, if that was receptive anal intercourse, the average risk without PEP would be 1 in 70, if it was insertive anal intercourse, the average risk without PEP would be 1 in 900.

However PEP is very effective the prevent the infection, when is administered within the first 72 hours after infection and when the drugs all taken strictly according your doctors instructions. The sooner PEP starts, the better.

I'm not sure why any doctor put you on PEP.  Oral sex is not a risk for HIV.
