Pregneant wife and poss exposure - pls advise

Hi

My wife is expecting twins (17 weeks gone) I very stupidly put myself at risk recently.  I had protected vaginal sex with a sex worker.  Before the protected sex she proceeded to give me deepthroat unprotected oral for approx 2 minutes.  We then had vaginal intercourse.  The condom stayed in place and I remove it myself after intercourse.
14 days later I have come down with flu like symptoms, aching teeth, green mucous (snot) I am in an absolute state of panick.  My first concern is protecting my wife and unborn children.  I have not engaged in anything sexual with my wife since exposure from fear of placing her at any risk.  I read that I can take a test at 90 days!!!  Would this exposure warrant testing?  I have read the archives but the thought of putting my entire familt at risk is making me think irrationally.  Please help.  I am based in the UK.  Thanks very much

As it's been mentioned before, HIV testing is not advised for a NO RISK exposure.

If you obtain a negative result at a month post exposure, it'll only be for your own reassurance.

Condoms reduce the risk of HIV to minimum. There are many resources that claim it's 98% effective in HIV transmission if used correctly. In fact, 2% are left out to the possibility of condom failure. Condom breakage is the reason one can not guarantee a condom protected sex will be anything but SAFE SEX.

You didn't report condom failure, so you don't need HIV testing.

Thanks everyone.  I will try and put this behind me and provide my wife with the support she needs.  For the last few weeks I have been a worried zombie.

Hi Lizzie

This was a drunken stupid mistake and I cannot begin to explain how consumed with guilt I am.  In this case the condom did not fail and lets just say ill never put myself in this situation again.

I will get tested for any STI's at 1 month.  I think this will include a hiv antibody test.  If thats negative 1 month after expose should I test further or put this beyond me.  I no use to anyone currentlt as the guilt and hiv anxiety have consumed me.

It's probably a one-time adventure that he won't ever do again, am I right, Mr? :)

If you've vowed to a monogamous relationship with your wife, then you should keep your promise and remain faithful.

Being in a monogamous relationship with a partner of a known negative status is THE BEST way to avoid HIV.

If the condom didn't break, then you were PROTECTED against HIV and did NOT contract HIV.

CONDOM PROTECTED SEX = SAFE SEX = NO HIV

You never had a risk of contracting HIV. You did however have a risk of contracting other STDs.
