Protected intercource penis shaft shaving nicks

Dear Dr,

4 weeks ago I had protected penetrative vaginal intercourse with a female sex worker. 4 hours prior, I incurred 2 1-2mm circular shaving nicks at the base of the penis shaft. Covered with bandage until the intercourse and applied vaseline. This part of the penis was not covered by the condom (removed bandage) and entered vagina at the opening.

I keep getting told this is no/very low risk (Dr. Hunter answered a similar question), but what's freaking me out are some symptoms that started 2-3 weeks after exposure, mainly: 2 small lymph nodes on either sides of neck, some muscle stiffness that lasts more than a week (I've been very stressed and anxious could it be because of that?), very minor sore throat that lasted only for few days (no fever), but most scaringly a very mild non-itching rash on my arm (a bit arm mainly forearm) - I think it's maculopapular based on my hours of online research, some redness covered with very small raised dots/bumps. Note that I've had sarcoidosis for 2 years now and had cutaneous problems during the first flare up - but definitely didnt look like this.

I asked on POZ forums and others and keep getting told this is not HIV because there was no risk. I showed the rash to a GP she was not concerned (I was afraid to mention HIV and she did not).

I will get tested at 6 weeks but in the meantime seeking some comfort. I havent been sleeping well for some time now and going crazy (could anxiety cause these symptoms?). Oh yes, the condom did not break (at least didnt look like it when I looked at it after pulling out - seemed to be covering everything but not sure about the tip but I read this one does not break discretely).

Any expert opinion please?

Thanks a lot!

Everyone else, including Dr. Handsfield, who told you you had no risk were correct. HIV never enters through minor cuts and scrapes, and specifically, HIV does not enter via the shaft of your penis.  As long as the head of your penis was covered during intercourse, you had ZERO RISK for HIV.

I'm not going to read all of that about your "symptoms" because this is an HIV prevention forum, and you had no risk, so whatever issues you have are not related to HIV.

Thank you so much for responding quickly, I really appreciate it.

I don't know why CDC and tons of other resources keep mentioning scraps and cuts on penis as a route for transmission. You definitely helped me until I go get tested.

Thank you
Your test will be a waste of time. Your doc already told you that, now you heard it here. See a therapist instead because thinking you might get hiv every time you get a cut will be a painful way to live.

Your symptoms are not related to hiv cause simply protected sex is no risk as much as condom was intact .. it seems you have severe anxiety that started to affect you and make you unable to sleep .. try to see  therapist also you do not need  to keep in such suffer for 6 weeks till you take the test that you are planning to take.. take the test anytime ... negative results will confirm that your symptoms are not related to hiv . You do not need to test cause you do not have risk but it is up to you as it seems you are in anxiety .Relax.
