Questions about screenings/tests/antibodies/generations

Hello.
My question is about the different ways people seem to be "tested" for HIV exposure.I have two questions:
FIRST>> I am in the health care field...I've taken probably 10  blood drawn tests over the last 20 years. They get blood, and in about 3 days they tell me I tested non-reactive.
Is this a real test? meaning...should I be asking for ELIZA? or 3rd generation? Or an Antibody test...If I feel I've been exposed?..
SECOND>>  I had a really, really slight risk of HIV sexual exposure a month ago. But would still like to be tested at the 6 week mark with the strongest, most sensitive test I can have... What should I be looking for for THIS test?

thank you.

I read your posting in the herpes forum, but I don't get your point wholly.

Did you actually happen to do unprotected vaginal/anal sex even a second long?

thank you for answering...I've looked at this site so much...I've given myself full blown AIDS over 5 minutes with someone and I was not even undressed...
It's dangerous here...with all the posts and symptoms.

I read your bio...is there a site you've used or you know of....NOT HERE...that can explain the different tests and when to take them?.I've read 6-8 weeks is fine. I've read 3 months. And then some still say 6.??
.and what a "generation" test is?....I suppose the doc I went to would know what test he were giving me...but I'd like to know what to ask for from now on.
I work in health care. I care for HIV positive children.(and adults for that matter) They cry, bite and throw up...So..I do get tested...but because of the SLIGHT chance of a sexual exposure...I went investigating...and now...ugh...
I'm a fairly educated person...but all these conflicting posts make me crazy...
...So...  Any help you can give on the different tests...or maybe a link that spells it all out clearer would be great..
thank you for your time..

The tests you had were most likely antibody tests, Antibody tests at 3 months are the best
