RNA test for HIV

Hello,

I did a RNA test in China few days ago. It showed negative. But, I want to know whether the RNA test can detect all types of HIV. Or, whether the RNA test requires different reagents when it detects HIV-1, HIV-2 or HIV-0. The doctor in the hospital told me the RNA test can detect all types of HIV. However, some other specialists on the internet told me the RNA test needs different reagents to detect HIV-1 and HIV-2. Whose opinion is right? Does any one can tell me a definite answer? Thank you very much.

* Anyone who continues to post excessively, questioning a conclusively negative result or no-risk situation, will be subject to action by MedHelp. Conclusively negative results or a no-risk situation will be based upon the criteria established by MedHelp’s doctors. Action will be taken as follows:
    * After excessive posting, a warning will be issued by MedHelp
    * Continuing to post regarding the negative result / no risk situation will result in a 3 day suspension
    * Continuing to post upon your return will result in a permanent ban.

Teak, Do you think I need a further testing? Even though I tested at 10 weeks with negative result. Thanks.

You had no risk but a 10 week negative won't change at 12 weeks so forget the whole thing.

I also did an antibody test at week 10 after the exposure.
It showed negative. Can I consider this result as conclusive?

Why I didn't have exposure? The nurse really didn't change the needle.

Thank you. So you mean the RNA test does not need to different reagents to detect HIV1 and HIV2. Does any specialist have different opinion?

The RNA is not a test that can be taken on it's own to diagnose HIV,you need an antibody test aswell.

Could you just tell me whether the RNA test can detect all types of HIV? I was sure the nurse did not change the syringes. And, I was sure the syringe was contaminated by HIV.

Are you sure it was contaminated?Nurses don't reuse syringes unless you live in Africa which you don't.

Does anyone can help me? Many thanks.

Yes. The nurse in CDC used the contaminated needle to draw blood from me because of careless. I really worried about this.
