Risk assessment

I feel really asshamed to be posting these questions but could really do with some advice on the matter.

I've recently returned from Thialand and whilst I was there I had unprotected sex with two working girls. It actually happened twice with the second of the girls. I'm now worried about my exposure to HIV. The girls were working in bars and not on the street, could this make a difference to whether they are infected with HIV or not?

I have done a bit of reading about HIV and discovered that the main type in Thailand is E which is apparently easier to transfer through heterosexual intercourse. Is this true or not? I've read that it's about 1 in 1000  of passing on HIV but does this apply to type E?

Since coming back I have also started PEP drugs, Combivir and Kaletra. This was within about 70 hours of the first incident and 46 hours of the second. Is this likely to help prevent the virus (if I've contracted it taking affect)? I tend to like odds so any odds here would be very helpful.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Some of you threads have already been of great help to me.

Thanks

Thanks for your comments JeanClaude.

Only time will tell if I'm unaffected which I really hope I am. For anybody reading this always use a condom because the worry afterwards is never worth the short time of pleasure you get.

You DO NOT know the status of these girls(They are NOTconfirmed HIV +).
There is some emerging data regarding HIV subtype E being more easily transmitted through Heterosexual intercourse ( Researchers are trying to determine if it is for a virologic, statistical, or other reason (uncircumcised men etc.)
If these episodes were 1 time contacts, your odds of contracting HIV ( If any of the girls were infected) is still quite low.
HIV is quite difficult to transmit from female to male during vaginal intercourse.
If begun under 72 hrs. nPEP is reported to prevent HIV SEROCONVERSION by approx 80%. The longer the time between time of exposure reduces efficacy. After 72 hrs, nPEP is NOT indicated as it would NOT be effective.
Overall, your chance of coming out of this UNINFECTED is VERY GOOD. In the future ALWAYS use latex condoms when engaging in VAGINAL or ANAL SEX.
