Two weeks Negative...scared!!
Hi Doc,
I'm a 24 year old female..I recently had unprotected vaginal sex with a guy from the west indies..well its initially started with a condom but later on..he took it of..we continued for about 8 mins without it..neither of us "came"... we I also let him perform oral sex on me..a few times. I later became very worried about HIV..because he has been unfaithful to his parthner a few time..well lets just say..we are both in relationships..this is the first and ONLY time I ever cheated..cross my heart..and this all happened while we were both drunk!!!. I am extremely worried..its all I think about..I constantly cry.. I keep reading the internet for signs and symptoms..I went to a free testing clinic exactly two months (eight weeeks) after the incident( the biggest mistake of my life)..and they did the western blot test.., they did a finger stick and took one tube of blood.. I waited about 30 mins and then they told me it was negative..i am wondering..exactly how accurate is this test?..can I be absolutely sure that I don't have HIV after testing negative at two months?? Should I stop worrying about it? Its taking over my life..I am so so so terrified..I can't function properly..my sister who is an RN said I should stop worry because the tests these days are so sensitive that if I had HIV..it would have showed up at two months..she says I feel this way because I feel guilty..and she says that anxiety from worrying can make you think you have the symptoms..also..I keep checking to see if I have swollen lymph nodes on my neck arm and groin...would I be able to tell if I did?,, cause I have a bump on my left...under my ear lobe..next to my jaw..but my wisdom teeth are also grwing in and my gums hurt..o u think the bump is from that? or something else?? PLease respond soon...I am truly....extremely scared!!!..

again...test at 3 months for a conclusive result as per the fda, cdc, and the manufacturers of the tests. EXPECT A NEGATIVE :)
Thank you for responding to my question..I really appreciate it. The 30 min..finger stick at a confidential clinic..is that the rapid test??? If thats what was done..are my results after two months possible exposure accurate? Now I'm even more scared..you seem to know a lot about this...is it STILL highly unlikely that my 2 month test will change????
FYI...you did not get a western blot test done from a finger stick at a clinic and you dont get the results from a western blot in 30 minutes.
it is highly unlikely that your 2 month test will change. stop worrying...and test at 3 months for a conclusive result.

According to the doctor here " I,along with over 300 hiv specialists all over the world have never seen a 6 week negative turn positive later on "
so i hope that shud ease ur worry.. just relax... and pls rem... do NOT mix DRINKS AND SEX !!
