I meant to ask that after the initial hiv 1/2 screen they usually use a western blot hiv 1 to confirm the elisa. Will the western blot hiv type1 rule out hiv 1/2?
Western blot test are used to confirm a positive test.
Thanks again Teak, I know it's used to confirm the initial screen . I want to know if the western blot is negative does it mean you are clear from hiv 1 and 2?
yes thats right..it means your elisa was a false positive...a negative western blot trumps everything else!
Does anybody know what bands usually show up for hiv type2 on a hiv type 1 western blot that would suggest infection with hiv 2? I'm just trying to educate myself.
Now I'm talking about an western blot for hiv type 1. If its negative does it mean negative for both hiv 1 and 2? Thanks
