On 28 Feb, 2010 I foolishly had unprotected anal sex with a random guy. I was the bottom. On 26 Mar, 2010 I came down with what I thought at the time was a nasty flu which lasted about a week. Symptoms included fever, chills, sore throat and body aches. I didn't think anything of it at the time since I had consumed significant amounts of alcohol that weekend and figured that probably contributed to me picking up a virus.
Anyway for whatever reason I have become paranoid that I could have contracted HIV as a result of my lapse in judgement. On 22 April, 2010 (about 7.5 weeks after exposure), I went to a clinic and had an OraQuick Advance Rapid HIV 1/2 test. The result was negative. I have read many of the posts on window times and have been trying to take reassurance from this result, given 6-8 weeks seems to be a benchmark. Although I will definitely be getting tested again at 12 weeks and maybe sooner if I can't keep my anxiety in check!
My question however is this: 2 days before I did the OraQuick test I went to the dentist and they tested me for oral cancer. I had to swish this liquid around my mouth for a minute or so which removed a layer of saliva. Would this have impacted the accuracy of the OraQuick test at all? Logically I would think not, but I just don't know.
Also if anyone has any thoughts on how concerned I should be regarding my risk I would appreciate hearing them. I figure it is pointless getting tested again before 12 weeks, but anxiety is a real pain in the a**!
Thanks!
