What are the chances I have HIV

Dear Doctor,

I have a lady friend who is in an open relationship and has multiple partners. About 5 weeks ago we ended up being together one night. We performed masturbation and oral sex on each other without protection. As we were a bit drunk, I penetrated her without a condom, but we immediately came to our senses and I pulled out. I must have had contact for about 15-20 seconds. I ended up putting on a condom and then we had vaginal sex. About 4 weeks ago we got together again and we had vaginal sex but this time with a condom from the beginning. We also performed masturbation and oral sex on each other, again without protection. In both cases the condom was intact at the end.

I have been of fine health since then although I did have a bout of diarrhea (mostly likely because I had had a lot of bad food the day before).

I wanted to know what I my chances of having HIV or any other STI? My lady friend insists she always practices safe sex with all her partners but I know I cant take her word for it.

Any unprotected penetration is a risk so take a 4th generation test which provides a conclusive result after 28 days. Likely you are safe, but it is important to know for sure, especially if you want to have relations with someone new both parties should always know their status - beforehand knowledge is best when it comes to this issue..

Obviously you can't take her word if she didn't use protection with you. There are no generalized statistics that can predict your outcome or tests wouldn't be necessary.

Thank you for your comments. Like you say I cant trust her so I did go and take a 28 day HIV test. I am anxiously awaiting my results.
Try to relax because the result will only take a few days and worrying will not affect it.You don't even know if she has HIV.

Alright mate first thing you need to know when you have condom on don't worry about HIV . If codon breaks or anything it will leave no doubt

1) the slight concern when you said you put the had sex for 20 seconds without condom . If this is your only single exposure my person view you will not get HIV .

You don't have symptoms that is also good ! Great news there mate

2) you trust her and she is fine but you don't know here status so practice safe sex you are using condom that is fine you won't get HIV if your condom doesn't fail and I think even condom break hasn't trasmitted HIV because people pull out

3) safe sex for HIV but if you want one test do one test now ag/ab combo to be honest it was single exposure but don't have sex without condom because you don't know etc .

4) personal view you will be fine you are fine but one test now for ag/ab combo you had sex for 20 seconds I am sure you are negative and HIV free don't worry sometimes it takes lots of exposures even girl to have menstrual blood and then go into your penis risk

But take one test you will be fine you have my word buddy
