ARS timeline

Hello everyone,
I was hoping that one of the good doctors could clear up the time of onset of ARS after exposure. Some sites say 2 - 4 weeks and others as little as 5 days after exposure.

I foolishly had unprotected vaginial sex with a Chinese prostitute in Saipan. About 5 - 10 minutes without ejaculation.

Anyway 3 days later I developed a medium fever mucsles aches and very sore throat, mainly the tonsils, which have some whitish grey pus on them. Swollen lymph nodes is throat. It feels like flu or a really bad cold.

I guess this is too early for ARS and I probably got flu or a bad cold, but am still worried. I will get tested after 4 weeks and again at 8, but would appreciate your opinion greatly.

Thankyou.

- ARS symptoms (if they happen at all), will generally occur about 2-4 weeks post infection
-Symptoms 3 days post exposure is too early to be HIV related

- This is the season for colds/flu

- As you did have a small risk,( one time unprotected sex), I'd agree an HIV test is in order. 6 weeks is a very good sign, 3 months is conclusive

ARS is irrelevant if you do or do not get any symptoms. Medical field really doesn't care if you are currently going through ARS, infect if you went to 15 Doctors during your ARS time none of them will ever mention HIV.

HIV is only detected by blood work. Future reference, ARS Is not accurate method.

Simple HIV 1 / 2 / O EIA at 6 weeks will explain the results.

Hello again

And if you have a regular partner, you will need to use protection (a latex or polyurethane condom) for all sexual activities until you get a conclusive negative HIV result and negative results of other STDs.

Thanks.

Hello

As you most likely know you had a possible exposure by practising unprotected vaginal sex.

Your symptoms are extremely unlikely to be due to HIV seroconversion illness.

You will need HIV-1/2 antibodies test 12 weeks post exposure to get a conclusive result.

You should also consider tests for other STDs such as gonorrhoea, chlamydia etc.

Thanks.

From what I heard 3 days would be to soon. Dr HHH said once that it needs at least 7 days, and normally 2-4 weeks.

But unprotected sex with a prostitute means you had a risk.

And as symptoms mean nothing - neither for nor against it - only a test can tell you if you got infected or not. Chances are highly in your favor. One episode of unprotected vaginal means 1:2000 IF she is HIV+. And most likely she is NOT infected.

In future use condoms!
