normally, no. I gave much thought bout it. the graphic and also logic say that it u have high VL ( and p24), u do not have antibodies. When u do have them, the antigen may reappear after a while as the FDA said in the graphic.
Still, when does this occur when both antigens and antibodies are not detectable? And am I understanding that right?
Ag is antigen, Ab is antibody, so it may be 4th generation. you took a RIF test and not an Elisa if it uses Chemi Luminescence Immuno Assay. It's said to be as good as an Elisa, only different method (one chemic, one by chemi color photo reaction).
The p24 antigen is detectable max at 2-3 weeks post exposure, after that may be detectable after 6-8 weeks, after the antibodies developed ( By a FDA graphic manny 1980 posted and it's no longer available here, sb took it out! but i honestly remember the graphic)
I am seriously worried about this comment and I have been thinking about it all day. Please does anyone know how long this period is when both the antigens and antibodies arent detectable and when does this period occur?
how long is the period when both the antigens and antibodies are not detectable? what is the maximum period?
What does that mean? Does that mean that you could actually be infected with HIV and at a certain point in time, neither a antibody or antigen test will produce positive HIV results??
Your impression was correct. Once antibody production begins, the antigens will not be detectable rendering the P24 part of the test useless. Then there is a period when not only will antigens not be detected nor will antibodies be detected.
I read the following from another testing centre:
HIV Duo Test or HIV 28 Day Test - includes HIV p24 antigen.
The HIV antibody/p24 antigen Duo Test is an excellent, accurate and inexpensive HIV test that reliably detects HIV infection that occurred just 28 days prior to the test. This HIV test is known as the 'Duo' because it tests for both HIV antibodies as well as the 'HIV P24 antigen'. The HIV p24 antigen is a core HIV viral protein which becomes detectable at approximately 10 days post exposure, peaks at 16 days or so and then remains at high level for 8 to 10 weeks post exposure. It will then fluctuate over the rest of the course of the illness. HIV p24 antigen is extremely useful in combination with an HIV antibody test in determining early on whether an individiual has been infected with HIV.
I wa sunder the previous impression p24 Antigen was not detectable after about 4 weeks.
Ag is antigen, Ab is antibody.. Not sure what the M suffix means nor indeed what IgG means.
The lady told me today that the test equipment they used for my 63 day checks for p24 Antigen and Antibody at the same time.Think they said 'Duo' on an earlier occasion.
Not sure if there's a practical upshot to knowing that other than curiosity?
how can it be IV generation? It only tests for antibodiesAntibodies

I was never concerned with the type of test my Doctor was using during my screening-if it's done at a reputable hospital or clinic i don't think it's a matter for concern, we can't be in control of everything.
Yes, it is a reliable technology for HIV anti-body detection. It is a IV generation anti-body testing method and belongs to the CMIA sub method.
The lab secretary told me that the test uses the Chemi Luminescence Immuno Assay. Do u know what is this test Teak?? Is it good?
Most tests don't go by generations, they go by name. Since you are saying it said HIV1/2 it is a newer test. It doesn't really matter because you have received your negative result.
I read that if it tests for HIV 1/2 and for IgG/IgM then it is a third generation ELISA. Right ?
The number of found as to what is found I don't know. Because I don't know what test you took.
The secretary at the lab doesnt know anything !!
what does qualitative mean?
Contact the testing lab and ask. I have no idea what test you took.
In the test result, it says the following:
Interpretation for methid HIV 1/2 (CLIA)
No Sign of HIV 1/2 Infection with IgG/AgM Elisa
What is this test? Teak do u know it?
Also, it mentions in the units : qualitative. What do they mean by qualitative?
