I am a health care worker and had a needle ***** injury 3 years ago, after which I completed the 4 week three drug post-exposure prophylaxis. However, the testing center at my hospital could not give me an appointment for those 4 weeks for ELISA testing, after which I asked my senior if he could write orders for me so that I could get it tested from a private lab.(We don't have ready kits in our country). So I was told that it was of no use then as I did not have a baseline. The patient's status was negative, but I am also worried about various body fluid spills that happened during deliveries and a splash in my eyes that happened while watching a surgery. That time we were just asked to wash our eyes. I did not worry much until now, but now I am married, and I am worried about my husband although we use adequate protection. I was again told that ELISA was of no avail when I inquired before getting married. So will it be good to do a hiv rna or dna pcr? Is there anything that I can do now?
