Hi, if I remember correctly the risk is about 3% for single exposure of unprotected insertive anal sex for the insertive person. I am not sure, as I am writing this from memory. I went thru the same 2 years ago and tested 6 weeks and 17 weeks negative. I didn't get the PEP. Difficault waiting time ahead.
Thanks so much. I appreciate it.
1. From what you have mentioned, I am assuming that you might have not been inside him for more than a few seconds - Indeed, this event would be classified as a "Potential exposure". However, considering the short period of exposure, there is a good chance that you have not been exposed to the infected fluid.
2. PEP needs to be diligently completed, the favourable numbers are very inclined towards you, the odds of PEP succes ratio is in the high 80%'s.
3. You were the penetrating partner and not the receptive one. Once again, there is a good possibility for you to come out clean as the only scope of transmission was the infected fluid entering your body through the urethra, which indeed is pretty difficult in your case.
4. Please follow up with an HIV specialist and ensure the correct testing protocols, for the sake of a reckoner, I would say, you need a 6 weeks test after completion of PEP (6 week negative changing ahead is very unlikely). Please ensure you back that up with a final one at the 12 weeks post PEP.
Good Luck!
pep will definitely help..and the only way to find out is to test at 3 months post exposure..
dont worry pep reduces the risk for transmission tremendously..and also your exposure time was very minimal..and also exposure froma single exposure is low..
so dont worry try not to think about it..
Thanks.
Teak or anyone else?
It is likely you did not get HIV from this exposure and the PEP will help, The only way to know your status is to test. Have an HIV test 6 weeks and 3 months out and it ill then be conclusive.
