concerned mom

My son has viral menagitis since he was 20 yrs old.  My son is 26 years old.  It reoccurs at least once a year or more if he parties (drinks etc).
My son told me a year ago he contracted HIV while living in NYC.
My question is based on both illnesses will my son die before he is 30 years old?
My heart is broken that I will have a dead child before his life begins.
My only wish is this Xmas is to find some hope for my son future.  He can make a difference in this world if he lives.

His MOM

Come on now!  You are NOT in even remotely a similar situation....You are NOT infected with HIV.  You need to turn your pc off...and got out and live life.

Sheeeeesh.

I feel like i am in the son's situation.. Im 20 yrs old.. had sexual contact with someone when i lived in NYC.. and scared to death that i might have HIV.. I have never been so drepressed.. I am an only child and very very close to my parents.. I love them soo much. If i died I would feel so selfish.. for doing something i wished i never did. Im going to pray for you and your son.. as i cant see how hard this could be on you and you family..

I pray in Jesus name that your son stays healthy and live a long, beautiful and happy life!

Bless you as a mother and I pray for you,,

The strides made since the first cases of HIV in the medical field are phenomenal.  Encourage your son to take care of himself and to follow up with the right docs, like teak said...an ID doctor who can monitor his progress, discuss the need for any medication if it is warranted and treat any problems.

Most times these days a person who is HIV + passes away from something other than AIDS related illnesses.

Finally....you need to dig deep and try to start thinking positively.  While I certainly understand your concern as a MOM....you've got the kid dead and buried.  If you educate yourself on the virus and become his # 1 cheerleader in this battle...I think you will find that you are truly overreacting.  You are succombing to the HIV/AIDS misconceptions out there that need to be squashed.

Encouarge him to live a healthy life and to keep up with any ongoing Rx that is necessary for both the HIV and the meningitis, and just be his loving and doting Mom.  My best to your son and your family.

No one can answer that question. Any one can be killed walking across the street. If he's seeing an ID doctor then the chances of him dieing from AIDS is slim to none.
