OK thank you very much Sarah you have been very helpful and encouraging. May God bless you for your kindness towards others.

Unfortunately, I am not aware of the risks of tonsilitis. Unless you have large, open uclers - I would think not. As for the physical lump - again - it could be absolutely anything. Lymphnodes themselves can become infected, and are often times not associated with a general infection.
For instance, I had a grape-sized node on my thyroid. It was simply a localized infection which cleared up in 5 days with penicillan.
When you get your test, get the doctor to check your node. Usually things which are viral cause more than one node to be swollen. I'm sure you're fine. And stop toying with it.
Wow really? can your tonsil get that inflammed that you feel it through your mid-neck area? It's like a hard lump no pain but moves around with ease.
thank you Sarah for your response. I have a little more to add. i hope you can answer. my lump is actually physical i can move it around and its grape sized right under my swollen left tonsil. I also have a broken wisdom tooth for about a year a big gap is there. would having oral sex put me at risk of HIV and if ive had tonsilitis also? thank you kindly.
Mono almost always causes lymph node swelling in the neck.
Tonsillitis can feel like a lump in the throat.
Thyroid problems can give you that feeling too.
Rest assured it is not due to HIV. Go to the doctor and get a blood test done to find out the reason for your lump.
Get your test done. It will be conclusive. Many experts believe 8 weeks is conclusive, but most government guidelines call for 3 months...so that's what you're left with. With a negative at 6 weeks, it is highly unlikely your test results will change. You can be confident your results will be negative.
Mono can cause lumps in your throat, but a more common cause of lumps is globus hystericus (basically nervousness causes the feeling of something trapped in your throat). If there is a physical lump - anything that has a virus can cause swollen lymphnodes. For instance, a deep scratch in your foot could cause swelling in your groin. That being said, if you have lumps, they are not due to HIV and such questions should be posted on a separate forum.
can mono cause a large lump in your throat?
