Try to look elsewhere based on the above words and come back here with the name of the test and we'll tell you whether it's appropriate. Any approved test no matter from which generation will provide a conclusive negative result at 3 months post-exposure.
"Abbott RealTime nor the Roche COBAS AmpliPrep/COBAS TaqMan HIV-1 assay "
translate please? I am guessing these are the manufacturer names for these test?
Neither the Abbott RealTime nor the Roche COBAS AmpliPrep/COBAS TaqMan HIV-1 assay is intended to be used as a donor screening test for HIV-1 or as a diagnostic test to confirm the presence of HIV-1 infection.

Really? So when a clinic tries to get me to pay more for one of these tests, are they just trying to rip me off? I also heard about RNA tests...which give results more quickly, are these also not approved? Argh. Can you refer me to a website that explains all these tests, what tests are diagnostic, etc? I would just like to gain a little piece of mind. Thanks so much for taking the time to address my questions.
PCR-DNA tests are not approved for HIV diagnostic use.
Thank you Teak. I have read about tests such as the HIV-1 DNA by PCR which can give you results more quickly than antibody tests which are only conclusive at the 3 month mark. Do you know if the results from these tests are as accurate?
Your 3 month post exposure test will be conclusive.
* FORMER IVD user...he has been clean for over 3 years...
Thanks getitright777...believe me I am trying not to worry. Does anyone know how I can assess my risk of infection in the meanwhile? I know heterosexual sex is the most common way for women to acquire the virus. How likely am I to have contracted it from this single encouter, being being hsv+ ? My partner was a bisexual IVD user, who claims to have test negative since his days with IVDs. I am religious about condom use, but they obviously aren't 100% fail proof...
Stop worrying because it won,t do you any good it will just make the situation worse and achieve nothing.Test at 6 weeks for an excellent indication of your status, with a duo test that looks for both p24 anitigen and antibodies.Remember you are not alone and will get through this.Take care.
