partner tested clean-what next

My girlfriend recently took an STD test, including an HIV test,  back in the states.  I am currently in the middle east and cannot get tested promptly.  Her results came back clean, she has no STD's and tested negative for HIV.  we have been together since sept 2007 and we have been exclusive,no other partners outside of our relationship.  i tested negative for HIV in early august 2007,  but  i had unprotected sex within three months prior to the test date.  my girlfriend and i have only had unprotected sex twice (with ejaculation inside the vagina) since sept 2007 and engaged in oral sex on each other multiple times.  I have no STD symptoms. i am aware this forum doesnt substitute the advice and diagnosis of a medical provider, but how much worrying should i be doing before i get tested. any info would be appreciated...

Well, the likelihood the woman had HIV on average is not high. Also it is a difficult virus to transmit.

By:
4 weeks - 85-90% test postiive
6 weeks - 95-96% test positive
8 weeks - 98-99% test positive

According to the docs on this site. If I was you, I'd go for a confirmatory test, but if you were tested at least 4 weeks after the incident... I would be fairly confident in a negative result because 1) most likely the initial partner did not have HIV (if she wasn't a drug user, or had other risk factors)... 2) On average, HIV transmitted 1 time per 2000 vaginal intercourses... and 3) you have a negative result, the further it is from exposure the more accurate.

Hope that helps a bit...

I'm a bit confused by your post, you were unprotected within 3 months... is this with your girlfriend? If it is, and her results were clean (with 12 weeks+) of no unprotected sex... then you have nothing to worry about if this is your only exposure.
