A 3rd generation test could be a rapid test ((finger prick)) or a blood test ((drawn from vein)). Both detect antibodies for HIV-1 & HIV-2.
Thanks for the feedback guys! Really appreciate it! I keep replaying that act in my head but I guess it's just my anxiety, hopefully I can get ease now. So a rapid test is considered a 3rd generation test?
You're welcome.
3rd generation and rapid tests both detect antibodies for HIV-1 and HIV-2.
They are conclusive at 12 weeks post exposure.
As mentioned before, you never had a risk. YOU can consider your 72-day negative as more than conclusive.
If you would have been exposed to any risk, both 4th and 3rd gen test taken at 72 days would give an almost conclusive result, extremely unlike to change, even under the most conservative standards (CDC's). But as sleeplessnights34 kindly told you, you don't need to test anymore.
I complete agree with sleeplessnights34, as your were already told, there is no need to do more testing in you case, so, the test type you took doesn't matter because you didn't need it in the first place.
Just as information, both 3rd and 4th gen Elisa tests are available as quick tests.
You never had a risk and never needed to test for this encounter. Condom failure is very obvious, and had your condom failed, you would have noticed without a doubt.
The unprotected oral was not a risk for HIV either. You're safe.
Don't waste your money on further HIV tests.
